Frequently asked questions
Short answers first, with links to the pages that explain each privacy, security, storage, and availability boundary in full.
No. The public information site is separate from the diary application and does not receive entries, titles, photos, encryption material, recovery keys, or Google OAuth tokens.
Yes. Core writing and browsing use Memoir's local SQLite database. Sync, maps, weather, and other network-backed actions still need a connection when you choose them.
No. Supported cloud-sync payloads are encrypted before upload, but the local SQLite database is not SQLCipher-encrypted. Device security and Memoir's app-lock controls are separate protections.
Supported encrypted payloads are stored in the Google Drive account you authorize. Google controls Drive availability, quota, account access, and its own data handling.
No. Memoir does not run a recovery service that can recreate both lost protection inputs. Keep recovery material somewhere durable and separate.
No. Verified local dictation is currently limited to supported iOS devices. Web, Android, and devices without verified local transcription retain manual writing instead.
Memoir implements preview and import paths for Memoir JSON, encrypted Memoir archives, Diaro backups, and Day One JSON. Fidelity depends on the source format, so retain the original backup and inspect the result.
Not as launched providers. Google Drive is the active cloud option. Dropbox and OneDrive remain disabled even though provider foundations may exist in source.
