Diary import
Bring your existing diary carefully
A diary migration deserves a reversible process. Keep the original backup, inspect Memoir's preview, choose a collision policy, and verify the result before changing your source archive.
Supported inputs
Start with a format Memoir understands
Memoir can preview and import Memoir JSON or encrypted archives, Diaro backups, and Day One JSON.
- Memoir JSON
- A Memoir JSON archive can be previewed and imported.
- Encrypted Memoir archive
- A protected Memoir archive requires its passphrase before its payload can be imported.
- Diaro
- Memoir includes parsers and import handling for supported Diaro backup content.
- Day One
- Memoir supports its implemented Day One JSON import path.
Safer migration
Preview, import, verify
- Make a fresh copy of the original diary export.
- Open Memoir's import screen and select the correct source.
- Review the preview and collision policy before starting.
- Inspect representative entries, dates, tags, and media.
- Keep the source backup until you have tested your new setup.
Processing boundary
Import happens in the diary app
Memoir stores diary data in a local SQLite database so writing and browsing core entries do not depend on a cloud connection.
This public page does not accept uploads. Files are selected and processed through Memoir's application import flow. Network access may still be needed for provider-backed files or later sync, but reading this guide sends no archive to Memoir.
Next step
Keep the source, then inspect a preview
Begin with a copy and a small verification sample. Do not delete or overwrite the original diary because an import appears to finish.
